Excercise 22 (Week 9) ebooks

Ebooks are simply electronic copies of your favourite titles. Netlibrary provides such services with titles covering a range of topics.Visited Project Gutenburg a source for free ebooks(yesterday books). Online catalogue search for author (Austen), title (Pride and Prejudice) came with a selection and a Biliographic Record. The format comes with selections. Where's Mr Darcy?
Ebook reader is expensive. Amazon digital book reader which can store up to 200 book is wireless.

Podcasts

Excercise 21 (Week 9) Podcasts (You don’t need an iPod!)
Podcast is used to refer to a non-musical audio or video broadcast that is distributed over the Internet.You need a PC with headphones or a speaker to access. People can download to their audio device.
Podcast Techtorial, great site for tutorial . The Tech Integration has a long list of Technology featues to use in learning .
Browsed Podcastalley.com with Podcast Alley that is one of the biggest Podcast Directory. Libraries can use The Book report for their Book Clubs. Book Reviews, Author Interviews are on the site.RSS feeds to podcasts provide the current news-Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. A radio from Internet?

Excercise 20 (Week 9) Discover YouTube

Users can easily upload and share videos on the Web 2.0 called YouTube.


You can find anything by doing a simple search. Someone asked me about Taiji Fan. A simple search shows a few videos about Taiji Fan. Improve your cooking skills with YouTube. Like most homemade videos some pictures are not clear, enlarge it, it becomes very blur. Lots of sites to entertain you eg. jokes/ fashion/ someone's singing. A Library event/programme can make use of Youtube.

Web 2.0 tools

Excercise 19 (Week 8) Discovering Web 2.0 tools
Took a look at Web 2.0 Awards. From the award categories, I tried funstuff. For Cocktail builder-won't work, Comiqs look friendly, you can create your own comic strip, will be fun if I have the time to sign up. Browse thru' Travel site called boo.com very friendly site will be a useful travel guide.From events categories, the upcoming site should be useful for Manukau Libraries events which allows you to promote and add in an event.

Zoho Writer

Exercise 18 (Week 8): Take a look at some online productivity tools
Took a look at web-based word processing tool called Zoho Writer.It is an online Word processor where you can write, share and collaborate. You have multiple users and can access, edit, share documents from anywhere.
Just created a free account in Zoho Writer. Very easy to sign up.Wow someone can do my homework or mum can keep track of kids work. It is more functional than microsoft.

Social Networking

Excercise 17 (Week 7) #17 (Week 7) Social Networking
Social networking services, such as MySpace, Facebook and Bebo, allow users to create a profile for themselves. I viewed the video of Social Networking in Plain English at home.
Someone at Auckland City Libraries has set up a Bebo page. The blog has got everything web on.
MySpace site look very user inviting and friendly. You know what you are signing up for. From Facebook you need to sign up first to read on about the site. Anyway a visit to Hennepin County Library page looked pleasant and welcoming. You have to sign up for Facebook to see more and
connect with Hennepin Coumty Library page. There is a link to 'chat with a librarian'.

On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0

Excercise 16 (Week 6) On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0
Library 2.0 is a new set of concepts for delivering library services. Michael Stephens sees Library 2.0 a strategy guides for helping users find informations, gather knowledge and create contents. Rick Anderson thinks the need to to shift direction as library cannot have the collection the traditional way. Dr Wendy Schultz infinite futures explains on the to the library experience of the future. Her view of Library 2.0 will drive the transition to Library 3.0 and then to
Library 4.0...
Web2.0 x Library = Librarian 2.0 to provide the up -to - date library services.
Dare we move forward and charge ourselves to be digital, to rethink, to be movable, to be flexible and if we have to move away from the 'old fashion' business.

Technorati

Excercise15 (Week 6) Getting not-so-technical with Technorati
Took a look at Technorati : the leading search tool and authority for blogs, the number of blogs doubles just about every 6 months. I did keyword search for Learning 2.0 in Blog posts , in tags and in the Blog Directory. The results are different.
The 'popular' section has information on one page to include Top searches, Top 100 Blogs by fans, Top 100 Blogs by authority(highest number of blogs), Top Videos, Top Movies, Top News with links and of course most favourite blogs to include books.
Technorati is only 3 years old.

Tagging

Exercise:14 (Week 6) Tagging, folksonomies & social bookmarking in Del.icio.us.
I read the full page of ' A beginners guide to Del.icio.us'. It is about putting a tag instead of folders in the social bookmarking.I also have a look at PLCMCL2's Bookmarks.
Del.icio.us is a social bookmaking service that allows you to save bookmarks to an account on web site, so that they are accessible from anywhere with Internet access. Libraries are using using this service

PBWiki

Exercise: 13 (Week 5) Playing around with PBWiki
PBWiki Learning 2.0. For 'explore-and-play-with wikis exercise, you have to add an entry to the Favourite Blog page
The theme of this Wiki is simply 'Favourites'. It can be favourites anything.
To do this click on the log in tab at the top right of screen. Log in.
Click on Favourite Blogs. I added my blog to the Favourite Blogs page. I also added my favourite numbers. You can also add comments to the page. Just easy to sign in and edit.

Wikis

Wikis: Help customers to choose books and users can post reviews about books. It is a site where you can find informations on a topic,where anyone can edit or add comments.Nothing is accurate.
I looked at the St Joseph County Public Library System on SJCPL subject guide. The travel topic
covers information for the area, links to other sites. It has 'New Travel Books' and Classic Travel Books. You can click for helpful tips or 'talk to the library'. Very interesting site.

New Technology

Excersie 11 (Week 4)
I have to create this blog post about anything technology related that interests me this week.
First the Technology advancements for Flatscreen televisions come in with great pictures especially with the Olympic games, it is really pictures fantastics.Normally I am not a TV person. I am glad we bought one Flatscreen LCD TV not long ago. At times I can see the finer points of the participants.
Next a new RFID machine was installed for us to tag our books. How easy it will be for libraries to check in and to check out books.
We are so fortunate to have these new technologies

Flickr Trading Card




From Exercise 10:(Week 4)

Click Trading Card Marker where librarians have created their own Librarian Trading Card. Choose a file on your PC for a picture to upload. Choose a colour for the Card. Fill in the Title field.There are seven icons you can include on the Card. Very easy to create your Fun Cards or rather E-cards for any occasions This is great for Librarians planning a programme.

I chose flowers because you can see how beautiful they are in different colour.
It is a great site for designers.

Sydney Opera House


Been trying hard to upload the picture of the Sydney Opera House without success.
It took me a long time to upload the picture of the Sydney Opera House.The magnifcient archictectural builing is one of my favourite wonders of the world. I was so happy I was able to touch its remarkable roof. The roofs of the House are covered with over one million special tiles.
Basic Flickr accounts are free and easy to join. Then share your favourite photos/pictures with family/friends and the public.
